For years, we have supported missionaries around the world, sent many teams and individuals on missions trips and even sponsored full-time missionaries from our church. Recent World Missions SharethePromise ~ Guatemala 2008... a LifeChurch, World Missions, Trip ReportWhat a joy it has been for our team to watch the children of Casa Shalom grow up. Many of us have made this trip for 5 years and the children anticipate our visit as much as we do. On our 5th annual trip to Casa Shalom, in the mountains of Guatemala City, we shared about the promises of God. Through our own personal testimonies we were able to connect our lives with the lives of the children living at Casa Shalom Orphanage. Our stories helped demonstrate just how great a God we serve! Our plan and our prayer was to offer encouragement to the children by teaching them how to trust in God no matter what circumstances they are in, and how to tap into what God has promised for their lives. They may have been abandoned by their parents, but they most certainly were not abandoned by God! Through VBS lessons, house groups, teen time, work projects and lots of hanging out together, we were able to share God's love in a multitude of ways. Our goodbyes are always tearful, but we do leave with the hope of returning again. In addition to the work at Casa Shalom, we also just completed our 4th annual trek to Pixabaj, a remote mountain village that only 4 years ago did not have a school. It has been an amazing journey to see their first school grow from a slab of cement on the mountainside, to a two story building, but more importantly into a school of excellence. Colegio Christiano Pixabaj is like a well watered garden. The seeds we have planted over the years have been tended to by the amazing teachers dedicated to this ministry. Consequently, we have had the privilege of seeing those seeds blossom. What a joy it was this year to be greeted by 260 children singing a song we taught them in 2007 and then discover they had adopted it as their school anthem. We go to Pixabaj to bless the children, but these children have already been taught that it is better to give than to receive. So each year we leave Pixabaj blessed beyond measure. It is amazing how quickly the children of Pixabaj have become woven into the depths of our hearts!
