Celebrating While in Pain
At times, people misunderstood the commands in the Bible where we are told to celebrate God at all times. Some have asked: "Why should I celebrate bad things?"
In fact, we are told by the Word of God to celebrate God. Good times come and go. So do bad times. There are times when we don't even realize whether our experiences are good ones or bad. At other times, it is very easy to determine if our circumstances are pleasant or dreadful.
Regardless of what is "going on" in my life, there is plenty to celebrate. I have noticed that, when I focus on the good things (blessings) that I have in my life...
1. I more deeply appreciate them.
2. I notice even more blessings.
3. I tend to forget - sometimes just for a few moments - the bad things I'm experiencing.
4. The pain I feel is somewhat lessened.
5. I have a propensity to tell others about my blessings and encourage them to count theirs.
For the rest this day, I plan on focusing on the wonderful gifts God has given me and with his help, I will look for ways to help the people around me; especially the ones who seem to be "locked in" on the tough things that are going on in their lives.
To quote an old gospel song:
"Count your blessings. Name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what what God has done. Count your blessings. Name them one by one. And it will surprise you what the Lord has done!"
